Summer officially starts Wednesday at 8:57am, but the time to hit the pool happened on Monday (June 19th).

After a 2-week delay due to mechanical issues, the Kendrick Park Pool opened to swimmers for the 2023 season.

The pool was originally scheduled to open on June 5th, but before that could happen, a break was discovered underneath the deck, and the pump was unable to get any suction, thus it wasn’t going to work properly.

McKoy Feland who is the Pool’s Aquatic Supervisor explains the benefits to swimming outdoors.

“You got the wind, it’s keeping you nice and cool, the sun is still shining, you can still get a tan while you’re swimming. It just feels so awesome to be able to swim outdoors and keep this outdoor pool going.”

Sheridan swimmer Nash Billings shares his first hand experiences.

“It’s actually more interactive and you get to sunbathe and actually play in the pool and actually have sunlight and you get to smell the fresh air.”

Kendrick Park Pool is open to recreational swimming from 1pm until 7 every day, but is only open from 1 until 5pm on the 4th of July, all of rodeo week, and the last full week of the season in middle-August.

Swimmers at the pool will have to make the most of this year, because the pool is scheduled to be closed for all of the 2024 season, as the city works on a $5.4 million renovation project.
