Hugh Markie, a prominent businessman in Lead, S.D., arrived in Sheridan by train last night in pursuit of his 16-year-old daughter who ran away from high school to marry a 23-year-old man. The father objects to the marriage, and has used telephone and telegraph to so far prevented the couple from securing a marriage license. The couple were in Sheridan earlier but left for Buffalo only a few hours before the father’s arrival here.

Out of the more than 1,500 children in Sheridan schools, more than 500 are physically perfect, according to reports from teachers under requirements of the physical examination law. Of the others, there were found nearly 500 had some form of eye trouble, 600 defective teeth, nearly 200 throat trouble, 125 defective noses and 135 defective hearing.
