A Polish cook employed by a miners’ boarding club at Kooi committed suicide last night by shooting himself through the heart with a 22-caliber Remington rifle. Insanity was probably the cause of the deed.

Miss Pentland, who is one of the teachers at the Coffeen Avenue school, has been ill with pneumonia for several days at the state hospital in Sheridan. Today she is reported to be making satisfactory progress toward recovery.

The city council yesterday afternoon passed a budget amounting to just over $120,000 for 1916. The appropriation is the same as for this year, but includes $7,000 for the construction of a new bridge across Big Goose on Alger Avenue and removal of the old bridge to Dow street.
