Now here’s Sheridan Media’s look back in time, to 100 years ago, as published in the Sheridan Enterprise newspaper on Jan. 5, 1917.
The harvest of the first crop of ice is virtually over. The Crystal Ice company finished last night, and the Sheridan City Ice company expects to get through in another day. Each of these companies has been working about 30 men for several days.
The Sheridan County commissioners have advertised for bids on construction of four steel bridges. One bridge will be across Powder River at Arvada, one across Tongue river above Ranchester, one a ross Clear creek at Clearmont, and one on Lower Prairie Dog creek.
Choice sirloin steaks are 20 cents a pound, and choice rolled roasts 18 cents a pound at Sheridan’s Central Market. Fresh sugar cured corned beef is 15 cents a pound.
