A Look Back in Time: July 11, 1917

Harvey Hammond, the son of John Hammond, the well-known rancher on Big Goose, was fatally injured yesterday afternoon. The deceased and another man were working on an irrigation ditch on the ranch when a cement wall caved in, crushing young Hammond against the opposite wall. Death was probably instantaneous.

A.J. Dunlap and Bob Whiston, advance men of the Standard Chautauqua System, are in the city arranging the details for the Sheridan Chautauqua. They report that Chautauqua this year is bigger and better than ever before.

There will be a social dance at the Banner Hall Saturday night, July 14. Music will be furnished by Sherrard’s orchestra.
