A man from Company D of Sheridan’s National Guard deserted at Verona tonight, leaving the train there and taking to the brush. He was captured by the station agent at Verona, and Deputy Sheriff James Worrill brought him back to the county jail. He will be turned over to the military authorities.

A large crowd of Sheridan people were at the station yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to the men of companies D and F who entrained for Cheyenne. The Kooi band played several selections while the men waited to board the train.

A host of friends aged 1 to 7 years helped Jean Pollard of Monarch celebrate her third birthday recently. Ice cream and cake were served.
