Executive Director of The Homer A. & Mildred S. Scott Foundation Jenny Craft has confirmed the purchase of the NSI facility by the foundation.

“The Homer and Mildred Scott Foundation is excited to announce the purchase of the former NSI property on Big Goose Road in Sheridan,” Craft said in a statement.

The facility went on the market in May of 2021. The 227 acre facility, which was operated by Sequel Youth and Family Services based out of Alabama, closed its doors after officials in California made the decision to withdraw its youth from Sequel Service facilities throughout the U.S.

According to Craft, the Scott Foundation will discuss and determine how they will utilize the facility in the coming months. But Craft told Sheridan Media one thing is for sure, the partnerships that will be expanded upon and created will benefit the Sheridan community.

The facility includes a football field and track, large resident housing which includes classrooms, a medical facility, a gymnasium and cafeteria and six homes once used by NSI for staff housing.

The property is under contract with a closing date after careful review and consideration Sept. 28, Craft said. The vision of the Scott Foundation—-its founders, trustees and staff——is to continue to make Sheridan a great place to live, work and play. Craft said the foundation and staff want Sheridan and the state to thrive.

“The Homer and Mildred Scott Foundation will be exploring ways to best utilize the land and facilities so as to benefit this entire community well into the future,” Craft said in a statement. “The Trustees and staff will engage with key partners during a time of thoughtful inquiry and careful planning. It is our ardent hope that this rare opportunity best serves our non-profits, as well as this region as a whole”
