Sentencing Held in District Court For Man Charged With Multiple Felonies

On January 27 of this year, Rodney Cabrera was arrested and charged with six crimes for breaking into Fremont Toyota in Sheridan on January 16 and stealing a firearm, tools and a Toyota 4-Runner. The 4-Runner was later recovered in a parking lot in Casper. Cabrera was arrested on the 27th when Sheridan Police responded to a report of an individual attempting to break into a cargo trailer.

At a change of plea hearing in early August, Cabrera, pursuant to terms of a plea agreement reached with the State, entered pleas of “no contest” to four of the six charges. District Court Judge John Fenn accepted the terms of the plea agreement at a hearing Thursday and sentenced Cabrera to 5 to 7 years in prison for each of two counts of felony burglary, 5 to 7 years for a charge of felony theft, and 120 days in jail for a misdemeanor interference with a peace officer charge. All of the sentences will run concurrent to the 5 to 7 year sentence for count 1, felony burglary. Cabrera was also given 262 days of credit for time served. Judge Fenn ordered Cabrera to pay $875 in court costs and fees and $12,626 in restitution.
