The City of Sheridan Landfill is asking city and county residents to take advantage of Free Landfill Day.
Beginning at 7:30 a.m. and running until 5:30 p.m. Oct. 23, the Sheridan Landfill will open the gates and allow both city and county residents to dump their refuse for free.
Residential household hazardous waste will also be accepted during the free day.
Sheridan City Recycling & Solid Waste Coordinator Seliena Parker said there are some items the landfill cannot take for free and there is a weight limit per visit to the landfill on the free day.

Should a resident arrive with more than one ton, it will have to be divided, Parker said. Residents can bring more than one ton of refuse to the landfill on that day, but the landfill requires only one ton of refuse be delivered by a resident per visit.
Parker asks that residents bring their patience with them as the lines do become rather long and wait times can reach up to a half hour.
The City of Sheridan requires all waste delivered to the landfill be secured or covered. Any materials that are not, will be subject to a surcharge of $11 per load for cars and trucks and $50 for all other vehicles and trailers.
