Johnson County, in the midst of lawsuits with various energy companies over unpaid back mineral taxes, is spending money on the litigation process to try to recapture millions of dollars owed to the county.
The county commission, at their regular meeting last week, ratified legal expenses for the quarter in the amount of just over $17,000.
According to Johnson County Commissioner Bill Novotny, those expenses are shared with the special districts in the county.
Novotny discussed the issue as a recent guest on Public Pulse.
Novotny said legal expenses have been adding up, and the fact they may be getting close to a resolution is good news and a bit of a relief.
