In a partnership with AARP, The HUB on Smith is inviting residents aged 50-years or older to take advantage of the AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide program.
According to The HUB on Smith’s Senior Fun & Wellness Coordinator Lisa Wells, this nationwide tax help program is aimed at people 50 and older and those who have low to moderate incomes, but Tax-Aide is open to anyone free of charge.
Residents don’t need to be an AARP member to take advantage of Tax-Aide’s knowledgeable volunteers, nor will there be any sales pitch for other services. The Internal Revenue Service set Feb. 12 as the date it would begin processing 2020 tax returns. The deadline to file a federal return is May 17, according to Wells.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, District 3 Coordinator for AARP Tax Aide Janet Dill, informed listeners that locally, AARP Tax Aide has a group of trained and certified volunteers that assisted in this process last year and are ready again this year once the Center For Disease Control and Prevention lists Sheridan County out of the “HIGH” category for level of transmissibility for COVID-19.
