The Wyoming Legislature had a series of large tasks to complete within the 20 day window of the 2022 budget session.
One of those tasks was the authorization of funds from the America Rescue Plan Act.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, District 22 Senator Dave Kinskey (R), told listeners that authorizing the money within the spending rules attached was challenging.

Without the ability to save any of the ARPA funds, Governor Mark Gordon, a former Treasure of the State of Wyoming, made some recommendations to take advantage of the situation.

According to Kinskey, $50 million of the funds will be retained for use in the event of another public health emergency. WyoLink, the communication service developed to provide communications for public safety and service agencies across the Cowboy State will receive $35 million. Approximately $13 million will be used to offset healthcare labor costs around the state. Ten million dollars will be used for Wyoming workforce development. A large portion, $85 million will be utilized for healthcare emergency construction.

The Legislature authorized $431 million in federal funds from ARPA to twelve different administering agencies, according to Associate Legislative Information Officer Ryan Frost.
