April is Sexual Assualt Awarness Month. This is an annual campaign observed throught the US to bring awareness to sexual assualt and inform and educate the public on sexual assualt prevention.
The Sheridan Advocacy and Resource Center is actively participating in this nationwide campaign. While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program Advocacy and Resource Center, Victim Advocates Shelbi Traub and Brittany Hamilton told listeners how they could show support for the campaign in their communities.
One of the goals of the nationwide campaign is ridding the victims of sexual assualt of blame.

To show support, the public is encouraged to wear something teal on April 5, 2022. Teal is the official color of Sexual Assualt Awarness month.

Local businesses are also encouraged to participate in the awareness campaign.
According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, one in five women in the United States experienced completed or attempted rape during their lifetime.
Nearly a quarter (24.8%) of men in the U.S. experienced some form of contact sexual violence in their lifetime.
Nationwide, 81% of women and 43% of men reported experiencing some form of sexual harassment and/or assault in their lifetime.
