During the recent meeting of the hospital board of trustees for the Johnson County Healthcare Center, Director of Nursing Mary Litzel reported that the last discharge for COVID-19 was on February 14, and the facility has not had another case since.
She also reported there have been no positive COVID Cases in Johnson County since March 19, but there have been some reports of flu throughout the county.
Litzel said the hospital’s pharmacy has the new preventative medication for pre-exposure to COVID-19 for those with an underlying health condition to take before traveling.
Brenda Gorm, Director of Nursing at the Amie Holt Care Center, told the board that the care center is still dealing with staffing issues, with CNAs in short supply.
The census at the care center is down to 32 residents from a high of 43, but there is a waiting list to place new residents in the facility, due to staffing shortages which dictate a smaller population to ensure proper care is given to the residents.
Gorm and CEO Luke Senden discussed reasons why it is difficult to recruit and retain workers in the CNA field.
The JCHC, as well as other hospitals and care centers across the country, will continue looking for ways to solve the staffing crisis.
