By Floyd Whiting
Comedian and writer Steve Martin’s The Underpants presented by the Civic Theatre Guild June 3-5 and 9-11.
Directed by Dan Cole, The Underpants features a local cast and tells the story of newly married Louise, played by Rowan Heil, who is bored with her demanding and uptight bureaucrat husband Theo, played by Ryan Legler.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Cole told listeners that the story of the play revolves around an event that takes place one day at the royal parade. When Louise jumps up on a bench to see the King, played by Carsten Wills, go by, her bloomers come loose and fall down around her ankles. Theo is frantic that her faux pas will cost him his job and reputation. But the room they’ve been trying to rent suddenly has plenty of takers, all due to the underpants.
Cole told listeners it wasn’t just the comedic writing that attracted him to the script.
The Underpants will begin at 7 p.m. June 3-4 and 9-11, and 2 p.m. June 5, at the Carriage House Theatre. Tickets and more information can be found at wyotheater.com.
