The Johnson County School Board has voted to add girls wrestling as an officially sanctioned sport at Buffalo High School.
According to a letter submitted to the board by Activities Director Ryan Mader,
girls wrestling has been sanctioned by the Wyoming High School Activities Association (WHSAA).
At BHS, girls will continue to wrestle alongside the boys in practice and competitions, but in instances where there are sufficient numbers of girls to compete at tournaments and other events, they will compete in their own division during the regular season.
Otherwise they will continue to compete in the boys’ division.
At the WHSAA State Wrestling Championships at the end of the season, Girls Wrestling will have their own division and awards.
Mader also said BHS will require no extra financial expenses in equipment, travel, or coaching stipends.
