Wyoming Downs Gets Approval from Johnson County

June 23, 2022

The Johnson County Commission has voted to allow Wyoming Downs to operate an off-track betting facility in Buffalo.

During their regular meeting this week, the commission heard a presentation from Eric Nelson, owner of Wyoming Downs, who addressed some of the commissions’ concerns, as well as some concerns from local law enforcement.

He spoke about the betting facilities they run throughout the state, and the positive aspects to those communities.

At an earlier meeting, the commission had chosen not to vote on their request for the gaming site.

Part of the opposition came from the police department and the sheriff’s office, but they decided to withdraw their opposition based on some stipulations, according to Commissioner Bill Novotny.

The proposed site for the betting facility is at the Quality Inn, located at the intersection of North Bypass and East Hart Street.
