A member of the Johnson County Cemetery District Board has resigned after the remainder of the board demanded he do so or be faced with an investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
Craig Wetterlund resigned from the board at a special meeting called for Wednesday evening, after the board confronted him with accusations of wrongdoing concerning an employment issue.
One board member said they had received a call from another party that had received an email congratulating another individual on being named the new sexton at the cemetery.
In their regular meeting earlier this week, the board held an executive session where they had discussed making an offer to an individual for the job, authorizing the board president to do so, but had made no public announcement of who the individual was, nor had the president made the offer of employment as of the special meeting.
Board member John Zorbas explained more about why the board was concerned.
Wetterlund discussed his position with the board.
After further discussion, the board offered to drop the legal investigation if Wetterlund resigned from the board, which he chose to do.
He later came back to the meeting and rescinded his resignation.
