Sheridan PD impressed with safety and security during WYO Rodeo Week

July 20, 2022

The Sheridan Police Department reports very low numbers regarding DUIs, public intoxication and minor in possession citations throughout the WYO Rodeo Week.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Chief Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley told listeners that they were happy with the low citation numbers from this past week’s events.

Ringley said he believes the activities that surround WYO Rodeo Week have evolved into more family friendly events, a trend he and the rest of the SPD hope continues. The evidence is in the numbers as the citations and arrests were approximately half of what occurred in previous years.

Chief Koltiska told listeners that he has always enjoyed the week’s events and he does not want to devalue or speak ill of the events in the past, but he took notice, along with others in the community who have spoken with him, the organizers of this year’s events had strong ID security and geared activities toward families having a good time.

According to the Chief, the safe rides home offered by the department were well used and the law enforcement and security of the events was exemplary due to the communication and partnerships between the Wyoming Highway Patrol, The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office and the Sheridan Police Department who were also assisted by officers from the Gillette Police Department.
