Johnson County School District’s New West Alternative High School has seen an increase in enrollment for the fall semester, according to Principal Dr. Mike Hanson.
Dr. Hanson gave a brief report to the school board at this week’s meeting, saying that current enrollment at the school sits at 32 students, which makes a full building.
He discussed a new program they will be implementing this fall.
Dr. Hanson also reported the school will be working with the Outdoor Education program at Northwest College in Powell to give the students a chance to hone those skills.
The school will also be adding what he said were a “handful of freshman students” this year, the first year they have had freshmen in the building.
Additionally they have added a half-time English teacher who will be teaching in the mornings this year.
He said, “we’re shifting what we do to match what parents want and what kids need.”
