Johnson County Fire at 3,000 Acres, Cause Under Investigation

The cause of a 3,000-acre fire in Johnson County is not known at this time and is under investigation, according to Johnson County Fire District 1 Public Information Officer Marilyn Connolly.

Connolly said a report was called into the dispatch center about 3:30 Sunday afternoon saying there was a fire on lands off of Tipperary Road southeast of Buffalo.

Connolly gave more details on crews and equipment battling the blaze.

The fire is sitting at 0% containment as of noon Monday, burning in sagebrush and grass on lands owned by the Christians, Hepps, the Bureua of Land Management, and some state and federal lands.

Agencies assisting with the fire are the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Campbell County Fire, the State Forestry Division, City of Buffalo, and Johnson County Fire District #1.

Connolly said the public is asked to stay clear of the area of the fire.
