Buffalo Council Rejects Land Lease for COMPASS Building

August 29, 2022

The Buffalo City Council has rejected a request from COMPASS Center for Families to lease city-owned land on which to construct a new building for their Buffalo office.

COMPASS was seeking to lease lands just north of Karen’s Place on North DeSmet Avenue and West Fetterman Street for a term of five years, according to Bill Hawley with COMPASS.

The council was split on the issue, and Councilman Dan Hart spoke against the lease.

The council vote was split 2-2 on the lease, with Councilmen Hart and Wes Haskins voting against and Mayor Shane Schrader and Councilman Scott Madsen voting in favor, which meant the proposal died for not having enough votes.

Councilman John Camino, who would have been the deciding vote, was absent from the meeting.
