Johnson County’s Commissioners voted to opt in to the National Opioid Settlement Funds, as recommended by County Attorney Tucker Ruby.
Ruby explained the issue with the commission at their Tuesday meeting.
Ruby explained the funds were to be used for dealing with the opioid epidemic, but Johnson County luckily isn’t experiencing that nearly as severely as other places.
His intention is to try to curb some of that at the front end to not have those issues crop up as badly here.
Ruby said, if approved by the commission, he would contact the AG’s Office to opt in, get the amount of funding the county will receive, and then work with the police, sheriff, and mental health to come up with a plan on how to use the funds.
The commission voted to allow Ruby to opt in to the funding.
