Sheridan County’s Commissioners have voted to again allow a portion of Secure Rural Schools (SRS) Funding for fiscal year 2023 to be used for Search & Rescue activities.
County Administrative Director Renee Obermueller explained how the funding works.
Obermueller said the SRS Funding comes in three blocks: Title I, Title II, and Title III.
According to fs.usda.gov, Title I funding can be used for roads and schools; Title II for projects on Federal lands, and Title III for county projects. A portion of Title III funding can be earmarked for search & rescue.
She said the county normally allocates 15% of their Title III funding, or about $25,000 to search & rescue.
