A sentencing hearing was held Tuesday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan for a 32-year-old man charged with felony property destruction and felony interference with a peace officer. On January 1, 2022, Joshua Reamer-Koehl broke the glass front door of the Taco Bell on Coffeen Avenue in Sheridan after being told he could not panhandle on the business’s property. Reamer-Koehl, after being placed under arrest for property destruction, struck a Sheriff’s deputy in the jaw with a closed fist, resulting in the interference charge.
At Tuesday’s hearing, District Court Judge Darci Phillips accepted the terms of the plea agreement reached with the state and sentenced Reamer-Koehl to 3 to 5 years in prison for the interference charge, and 2 to 4 years for the property destruction charge. The sentences will run concurrent to one another and are suspended in lieu of three years of supervised probation. Judge Phillips modified the sentence to include the condition that Reamer-Koehl remain incarcerated at the Sheridan County Detention Center until an opening is available for inpatient residential substance abuse treatment at Volunteers of America. Reamer-Koehl was also ordered to pay $525 in various court costs and fees.
