Pumpkins Were Flying at Fall Pumpkin Festival

Pumpkins were flying on Saturday, Nov. 5, when 604 Sheridan area people turned out at Black Tooth Park to enjoy the fun at the second annual Fall Pumpkin Festival. Although the day started out sunny and warm, a fierce wind came up around noon, raising havoc with the obstacle course, the ring toss and other games. Although slated to run from 10 until 2, the event closed at 12:30 p.m. due to the wind.

Seliena Parker, Sheridan Recycling and Solid Waste Coordinator, said she felt the festival was a success again this year. As of Monday, they did not have a total number or poundage of pumpkins recycled, as they had not yet weighed the recycle bins around town.

She felt the number might be a little lower than last year’s number, due to having to close down the Fall Festival early. “I’m hoping we got a good number,” she said. Recycled pumpkins are added to the compost at the landfill.

One big attraction this year and last year was the pumpkin sling shot. Parker said it was a city game, put together and operated by Parks Department, and the gentleman who was primary involved with it was Rod Altermatt. He designed it last year and made some modifications on it for this year.

Parker said they hoped to have the event next fall.

More businesses participated in this year’s event, and there was a pumpkin smash area, photo booths, face painting, ring toss, bean bag toss, an obstacle course and other fall-themed games. Parker said they were thankful to the food trucks that helped people warm up.
