News – Sheridan Media
My name is Chaney Peterson. Clay Christensen and I proudly serve as the John B. Kendrick FFA Chapter Advisors at Sheridan High School. We are hoping to better share some of our chapter’s activities, accomplishments, and events with the public. Our 2022-2023 Chapter Officer team has put together this article to share a glimpse into the awesome things our FFA members have been up to. We greatly look forward to sharing our involvement in our community, state and Nation in the coming months.
The summer of 2022 was definitely a busy one for the Sheridan FFA Chapter, John B. Kendrick. To start off the summer was the FFA Leadership camp. Leadership camp was an opportunity for the 2022-2023 Chapter Officers and any interested FFA member to interact with FFA Chapters around the state. The Wyoming State Officers conducted workshops with members, along with a couple of the National Officers. For many of us, this wasn’t the first time we had gone, but still we come back with more guidance and intelligence each time. Throughout the week, we had a vast amount of activities to help us learn more leadership skills to help us through FFA this year and many more to come. After Leadership camp there was slack. Our chapter helped at the morning competitions of WYO Rodeo, we helped with moving cattle, pushing them through chutes, taking off horn wraps, and just about anything they tasked us to do to make everything easier. It was super fun and members always look forward to doing it in the summertime.
Next up was the County Fair. The Sheridan County Fair was held from July 30th to August 8th. There were multiple FFA members involved from the John B. Kendrick FFA Chapter, Tongue River Chapter, and the Arvada-Clearmont Chapter. Our members compete in many animal categories from small animals like rabbits to the larger species like cattle and horses. We had multiple members partake in the champion drives and the Round Robin competitions. After the County Fair is the State Fair in Douglas.
During the third week of August, three members of the John B Kendrick FFA chapter participated at the Wyoming State Fair. These members showed many different species, including cattle, swine and sheep. They were able to participate in many leadership seminars as well as enjoy the entertainment in Douglas. All members had a great experience and lots of success!
As our last big activity of the summer season, our officers went to Camp Roberts YMCA Campground a. We learned about being a leader, we also grew closer as an officer team as we went kayaking, played card games, and competed in corn hole. Mr. Julian, the former Sheridan High School Athletics Director, came and directed an hour-long workshop about the differences between goals and purpose. We came up with our goals and purposes as a chapter, as well as individuals. Overall, the officer team grew a lot closer together, which sets us up as leaders to grow stronger as a chapter.
