US Highway 14A About To Close For Winter 2022-23 Season

November 15, 2022

News – Sheridan Media

It’s almost time to shut the gates on one Wyoming highway in the Big Horn Mountains.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation says thanks to a significant amount of snowfall, along with strong winds and minimal traffic, a 22-mile stretch of US Highway 14A west of Burgess Junction will close for the upcoming winter season on Monday, November 21st at 12 noon.

Snow plowing efforts in the winter become impractical, thus the road is closed seasonally as a safety precaution.

WYDOT crews from both Lovell and Burgess Junction will make 1 final sweep of the highway on Monday, to ensure all motorists are off the highway, before closing the gates.

The highway normally doesn’t reopen to motor vehicle traffic until around Memorial Day.

US Highway 14 over the Granite Pass will remain open, however motorists are encouraged to check road conditions before traveling.
