It looks like the first big snowstorm of the 2022-23 winter season is about to hit northeast Wyoming and southeast Montana.
The National Weather Service in Billings, Montana has issued a winter storm warning for Sheridan County.
The warning is in effect from 11am Monday (December 12th) until 5am Thursday (December 15th) and includes the cities and towns of Sheridan, Big Horn, Ranchester, Dayton, Clearmont as well as Hardin, Lodge Grass, Crow Agency, Pryor and Busby in Montana.
Snowfall totals between 10 and 16 inches are anticipated.
The Weather Service in Riverton has issued a winter storm warning for Johnson County from 5pm Monday, until 6am Wednesday.
This includes the cities and towns of Buffalo and Kaycee.
Four-to eight inches of snow has been projected with higher amounts in the eastern part of the county.
Winter storm watches have also been issued for Campbell, Crook and Weston Counties, as well as other portions of southeast Montana.
Roads as well as bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous, making travel very difficult or impossible.
Areas of blowing snow could reduce visibility.
The NWS advises that motorists should consider delaying travel if possible.
If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution, be prepared for sudden changes in visibility and take a winter travelling kit with you.
Make sure your vehicle is winterized and in good working order.
