New Cemetery District Board Rescinds Saturday Burial Fee

At their regular meeting Tuesday, the new Johnson County Cemetery District Board brought up and discussed the $400 Saturday Burial Fee.

The additional fee was implemented earlier this year by the board, which was an unpopular decision with county residents, who brought petitions before the board to rescind the fees at that time, with the board opting to keep the fees in place.

Board President John Hansen explained why the fee was initially implemented by the board.

Hansen said that the previous board viewed the fee as a deterrent to having burials on Saturdays.

The fees were put on the agenda for the first meeting with the new board members elected in the November election, and the discussions concluded with the board voting to rescind the fee.
