Sheridan County Emergency Management’s new explosives K9 has been given the name “Scout,” according to a release from Sheridan County.
Students in 48 classes from all three Sheridan County School Districts participated in the vote to name the dog, and Scout was the name chosen by them.
The release said Scout will arrive in Sheridan January 2 after completing initial training.
Scout and Emergency Management Coordinator Jesse Ludikhuize will train together for approximately three weeks before becoming certified in explosives detection. Scout and Ludikhuize will then be available to screen for and respond to suspected explosive devices throughout Wyoming.

The county wanted to thank Sheridan Seed and Company for sponsoring the purchase of food for Scout.
The purchase of Scout, training and salary is paid for by a grant from the State Homeland Security Program from the Department of Homeland Security and Administered by the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security.
