The Johnson County School Board recognized teachers that have earned or re-earned National Board Certification, and one that earned a prestigious award.
During their regular meeting Monday night, Superintendent Charles Auzqui praised Lauren Mills of Meadowlark Elementary for earning National Board Certification.
Also recognized for their re-certification were Richard Farris, Marshall Townsend, and Rebecca Qualm from Cloud Peak Elementary; Tracie Kirven from Buffalo High School; and Aimee Shreve and Kris Thiele from Clear Creek Middle School.
Meadowlark Elementary Teacher Jessica Kavitz received the Milken Educator Award, announced by Superintendent Auzqui.
Board Chair Jan Johnson spoke about the award, of which only 40 are given nationwide each year.
According to the Milken Educator Award website, Candidates for the Milken Educator Award are sourced through a confidential selection process and then reviewed by panels appointed by state departments of education. The most exceptional are recommended for the Award, with final approval by the Milken Family Foundation.
