May 9 has been designated as National Fentanyl Awareness Day, and Johnson County Community Prevention Manager Bill Hawley wanted to educate the public on the dangers of Fentanyl and urge people not to get involved in anything that may contain the dangerous narcotic.

According to Hawley, drug cartels in Mexico as well as other places around the world are creating fake pills that look like OxyContin, Percocet, Adderall, or Xanax and lacing them with Fentanyl, which is what makes these pills as dangerous as they are because in most cases, people are not aware the counterfeit pills may contain a lethal amount of the narcotic.

Hawley said Fentanyl is here in Johnson and Sheridan Counties and there have been numerous large drug busts involving the drug and everyone needs to be aware of the dangers of the drug.

Hawley added, “it’s not a high, you’re gonna die.”
