The Sheridan area isn’t the only place that has seen recent bear activity.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department says on Tuesday, August 15th, an adult male grizzly bear was captured for killing livestock on private land northwest of Thermopolis.
The bear was relocated to the Five Mile Creek drainage, about 41 miles west of Cody, and not far from the East entrance to Yellowstone National Park.
Elsewhere, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials have had to euthanize two grizzly bears this month.
The first was a 3-to-5 year old female with no cubs, who was accessing garbage stored in bear-resistant containers that were not secured, in the community of Big Sky, located northwest of Yellowstone.
The bear had also found unsecured food in a vehicle.
The decision to euthanize it was made because it had become conditioned to seeking food from unnatural sources, which creates human safety risks.
A few days later and not far away, another bear was euthanized for killing livestock.
The 20-year old male had been captured and relocated once before, for the same reason.
Montana FWP officials say the bear had significant tooth decay and when that happens, bears will sometimes prey on cattle as an obtainable food source.
Both bears were euthanized after consultation with the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
