U.S. Senators John Barrasso and Cynthia Lummis (both R-WY) jones Senator Mike Braun of Indiana in introducing legislation that nullifies the Biden administration’s law that would increase the upfront costs of homes and impact what appliances people put in their homes. The Inflation Reduction Act authorized billions of borrowed dollars to push state and local governments to upgrade energy efficiency standards across the country. The impact of changing standards could increase the upfront costs of a home by more than $20,000.
Senator Barrasso said the Homeowner Energy Freedom Act is the first step towards reversing harmful energy policies that increase the costs of owning and maintaining a home and it will also help ensure that Wyoming families are able to choose what appliances to buy without interference from climate extremists in Washington.
Senator Lummis said the Inflation Reduction Act is a prime example of big government meddling, prices going up and consumers foot the bill. Lummis added that the last thing people in Wyoming need is the Biden administration deciding what stove they should cook dinner on or how they should heat their home in the winter.
