Winter Storm Watch Issued For NE WY/SE MT and Big Horn Mountains November 23-24, 2023

Travel on Thanksgiving could be an obstacle thanks to Mother Nature.

The National Weather Service Office in Billings, Montana, as well as offices in Riverton, Wyoming and Rapid City, South Dakota have issued a Winter Storm Watch for Sheridan, Johnson and Campbell Counties in Wyoming, as well as Southeast Montana and the Big Horn Mountain Range.

The watch for Sheridan County in Wyoming and Big Horn County in Montana is in effect from 12:01am Thursday (November 23rd) until 5pm Friday.

Five-to-12 inches of snow is in the forecast, with 7-to-14 inches forecasted for the mountains.

The watch for Johnson County is in effect from 5am Thursday until 11am Friday.

Six-to-10 inches is forecasted for the lower elevations, with 8-to-14 inches forecasted for the mountains.

The watch for Campbell County is in effect from 12:01am Thursday until noon Friday.

Three-to-seven inches of snow is in the forecast.

The National Weather Service advises that untreated roads, as well as bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous.

Hazardous conditions could impact Thanksgiving day and Friday travel.

This includes travel on I-90.

If travel is absolutely necessary during the watch period, drive with extreme caution.

Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you.
