The Buffalo City Council has voted to adopt the newest Hazard Mitigation Plan for Johnson County, which also covers the two incorporated areas in the county, the City of Buffalo and Town of Kaycee.

At their meeting Tuesday evening, the council was given a brief report from Johnson County Emergency Management Coordinator James Cataline, asking for them to adopt the plan, which will help in the planning, implementation, and funding from Federal sources needed in times of emergency, such as wildfire, flooding, and other natural disasters.

He explains further.

He also said that FEMA’s position on hazard mitigation is that for every dollar spent on mitigation, it saves six dollars in the long run dealing with emergency situations.

The council voted to adopt the latest Hazard Mitigation Plan, which was adopted by Johnson County’s Commissioners at their meeting earlier Tuesday.

It now goes to Kaycee for their town council to consider.
