Johnson County’s Commissioners have adopted the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Plan for Johnson County.
County Emergency Management Coordinator James Cataline came before the commission at their last meeting to ask for their acceptance of the document.
Cataline explained that if the county does not have a Hazard Mitigation Plan adopted and there is some kind of natural disaster such as a flood or wildfire, then FEMA will likely not reimburse the county for costs incurred concerning the issue.
In addition to the county, the plan must be adopted by the City of Buffalo, Town of Kaycee, and the Powder River and Clear Creek Conservation Districts.
