The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce Chamber Bucks program began in 1993 and issued $2,700 dollars in Chamber Bucks that first year.
The intent was to issue a check-like currency into the community that can only be spent at participating businesses to keep downtown businesses thriving in a time when larger box stores were springing up in smaller communities around the nation. Since that time, participation in the program has ebbed and flowed but grown steadily.
Last year, the Chamber issued $212,000 in Chamber Bucks. According to the Chamber, 2024 is up %10 from 2023. The most successful year to date was 2021, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when local businesses were suffering the community came through and over $239,000 in Chamber Bucks was issued.
During a recent appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce Program Development Director Teresa Detimore and Member Relations Director Bobbi Mitzel said Chamber Bucks make a great gift, either for the hard to shop for person in your life or as a surprise in the stocking.
But Detimore said the order and pick up of Chamber Bucks must be completed by Dec. 20.

The use of Chamber Bucks supports local Sheridan businesses and are accepted by many shops in town.
The Chamber has alerted the public that they will be closed Dec. 23, 24, 25 and Jan. 1.
