This past June, the State of Wyoming adopted the 2024 International Code Council Building Code Family that includes the International Fire Code, International Building Code, International Fuel and Gas Code, International Mechanical Code, International Existing Building Code, and the International Plumbing Code. The City of Sheridan must adopt the same codes to retain home rule, which allows the City Building Department to review and approve building plans and perform all necessary inspections. The Sheridan City Council at their business meeting Monday, approved on third and final reading an ordinance adopting the International Code. City Public Works Director Hanns Mercer.

Mercer said that by adopting the code and retaining home rule, it allows the City to provide a much higher quality of service than the State of Wyoming would be able to provide.
