On Wednesday night, Feb. 26, at the Sheridan County Chamber of Commence Awards of Excellence Ceremony, the Chamber also honored long term Chamber of Commerce CEO Dixie Johnson, who retired in January. Johnson has been the CEO for 14 years.

Last May, Johnson was diagnosed with a Grade IV glioblastoma brain tumor, and she and her family have been dealing with the illness since then.

Rosemary Garber of the Chamber said that although Dixie was nominated for an award, Johnson told the Chamber to take her name off the list, so they decided instead to honor her long-term tenure as CEO.

Although Dixie could not be at the awards ceremony, her son, Rob Johnson, accepted the award in her stead.

He talked about his mother and what she did for the chamber.

The Chamber presented her with a glass candy dish and large packages of her favorite candy, peanut M&M’s.

Dixie received a standing ovation from the audience.
