City Utilities Director Dan Roberts, during his report to the City Council,  said that The Alliance Lateral Ditch is the primary raw water conveyance channel for irrigation users within the Big Goose Valley and Northwest Sheridan, and that growth, development and natural degradation of the ditch over the years, has limited the ditch’s ability to convey untreated irrigation water to users in Northwest Sheridan. Roberts added that most users and potential users, including the City of Sheridan, have resorted to utilizing more costly treated water for their irrigation purposes.
