Most Scams Originate Outside of the U.S.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, in 2024, Americans lost $12.5 billion to various forms of fraud and scams, which was a 25 percent increase from the 10 billion lost in 2023. During a recent appearance on Public Pulse, Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez addressed the issue of scams and said that most originate in another country.

The Federal Trade Commission reports that consumers lost $5.7 billion last year in cryptocurrency and investment scams, which were the most financially damaging scams for Americans.
