CSOs answer more calls than any other SPD officers

The National Animal Care and Control Association annually designates the second full week in April as Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week.

During this week of appreciation the Sheridan Police Department recognized Community Service Officers Ed Boone and Kris Walker. These CSOs are responsible for all animal control calls in the City of Sheridan as well as ordinance enforcement and answering nuisance calls. This array of duties causes both CSOs to be the busiest officers in the City of Sheridan.

SPD Chief and CSO Boone made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse and spoke on the profession that answers more calls than any other duty in the department.

According to SPD Captain Tom Ringley, CSOs Boone and Walker devote huge amounts of time, effort and resources in serving the Sheridan community and the animals beloved by so many residents.

The CSOs handle not only domestic animals calls, but wild ones as well. Larger animals are deferred to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, but smaller critters are handled by the CSOs. Boone said bats are a common issue in Sheridan as they take refuge in homes.

Boone said every effort is made to return domestic animals to their home if they are found wandering. Winter months are slower for the CSOs, but during the warmer seasons, the number of calls regarding loose animals can be very demanding.

Both SPD Community Service Officers Ed Boone and Kris Walker are often seen patrolling the streets of Sheridan, answering calls and helping to find and care for Sheridan’s dogs and cats. Chief Koltiska is inviting the community to thank his two busiest officers for their dedicated service.
