The University of Wyoming is reporting the Manufacturing Works program has received a reprieve from a loss of funding from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
According to UW, Manufacturing Works is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting Wyoming manufacturers, producers and entrepreneurs in growing their revenues, increasing productivity and strengthening global competitiveness. As part of the MEP National Network, Manufacturing Works has been instrumental in delivering solutions that create value and drive economic growth in Wyoming.
Manufacturing Works — which learned earlier this month that NIST was preparing to immediately withhold federal funding from Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) centers in 10 states, including Wyoming — received word this week that the funding will continue, at least temporarily.
“After further review and consideration, NIST has determined to renew the funding for these 10 centers through the end of the fiscal year as NIST and the (U.S. Department of Commerce) continue to evaluate plans for the program,” a message from NIST says.
At stake is about $700,000 in expected funding for Manufacturing Works, the MEP center serving Wyoming.
“We appreciate this extension of funding and the work of Wyoming’s congressional delegation to give us more time to find our way forward,” Center Director for Manufacturing Works Rocky Case said. “We will move to more of a long-term strategic mindset in order to chart our future growth and continuation of support for small and medium manufacturers in Wyoming.”
