The Johnson County School Board has approved and accepted the recommendation from Superintendent Charles Auzqui concerning the implementation of HB0172, that was passed by the Wyoming Legislature earlier this year.

Board President Travis Pearson explained that the Superintendent had made a recommendation to not develop a board policy at this time requiring concealed carry training for staff and volunteers at schools and school events, but to monitor other schools and districts around the state to see if changes may need to be made in the future.

Auzqui explained his recommendation.

According to billtrack50.com, HB0172 amends Wyoming’s concealed carry laws to expand where individuals with state-issued concealed carry permits can legally bring firearms, effectively repealing many existing “gun free zones.”

The legislation creates new provisions allowing permit holders to carry concealed weapons in governmental meetings, legislative sessions, public airports, public buildings, school athletic events, and educational facilities, with some restrictions.
