Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Jory Wasserburger grew up in Gillette. His father was a school teacher and principal and his mother, an obstetrics nurse at Campbell County Health.

He told listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse that it was his mother that saw his interest in helping people around him, leading her to guide him toward medicine.

Medical School is difficult and competitive. But even among medical school students, there’s a specialty that many don’t even apply for because of its competitive nature. Orthopaedic surgery residency is highly competitive, consistently ranking among the most sought-after specialties.

According to a study published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information, during the analyzed study period of 2019 to 2023, the match rate for allopathic students was 74.5% compared with 59.9% for osteopathic students.

Dr. Wasserburger did receive a match and has worked to become a prominent orthopaedic surgeon with Sheridan Orthopaedic Associates.

Since 1972, Sheridan Orthopaedic Associates has been a trusted name in Sheridan.

Recently the team at Sheridan Orthopaedic Associates has partnered with Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Dr. Wasserburger said this partnership has already improved patient care allowing the doctors and surgeons time to focus on what’s important.

Dr. Wasserburger said the doctors and surgeons that serve the Sheridan community didn’t simply accept an open position, they worked to be here in Sheridan and are honored to be serving the Emerald City and Sheridan County residents.
