The SCSD#3 Arvada-Clearmont Amazing Shake Competition was held on May 7. The competition challenges students’ professional acumen with this exciting contest.

The Amazing Shake was originally created by the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, and through it students are introduced to the nuances of professional human interaction as they are taught important real-life skills.

Stations were set up throughout the school, creating such real-life situations as proper etiquette, handling costumer complaints, giving a speech, take out a loan, making a doctor’s appointment, and even how to handle a routine traffic stop.

Jennifer Betz, Dean of Students, was instrumental in starting the event at the school.

Another organizer of the event at Clearmont was Jonathan Broersma , math teacher at A-C.

All the stations are real-life scenarios, and the stations were manned by school personnel, as well as volunteers from around the Clearmont area.

One station was taking professional photos by Lanna Wing Photography out of Buffalo.

One station was an interview station, with volunteers from EMIT Technologies in Sheridan.

Loyce Ellingrod, A-C Guidance Counselor, talked about her etiquette station, saying that students learn what to do in a semi-formal situation, what utensils to use, what to do with their napkin, and general etiquette when dining out.

Senator Barry Crago, Senate District 22, and Representatives Marilyn Connelly, House District 40, attended the event and had this to say.

Crago said,

He added that this would have been very helpful as he left high school to go to college and the work force.

Connelly added this,

She also commented on the “Houses” at the school, and how it helps the students to learn to get to know each other.

In a Panther Claw assembly held on May 8, the winner of the Amazing Shake was announced. The two finalists were Natalie Stoll and Dellana Michelena.

Jonathan Broersma added this about the two finalists.

Cody Sinclair, Chief Development Officer at Sheridan Memorial was impressed by both of the students.

Broersma said the competition was very close, and Dellana Michelena was announced as the winner. She was presented with the Amazing Shake Belt. Michelena will have access to the Belt—a symbol of excellence, leadership, and Panther pride! She can wear the belt anytime she chooses throughout the year to represent what it means to be the A-C Statesman. This belt isn’t just an accessory—it’s a statement of hard work, confidence, and the courage to rise to the challenge.

Several other prizes were awarded as well.
