Crazy Woman Canyon to Close for Summer

May 16, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

A full closure of Crazy Woman Canyon to all traffic, including pedestrian, automobile, and bicycle access, will be effect from June through September of this year.

The closure is necessary to ensure public safety and facilitate two major bridge replacement projects.

The first project, led by Johnson County in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration, involves replacing the bridge located at the bottom of Crazy Woman Canyon.

This project is funded through a combination of Johnson County Road Funds and the Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP).

Additionally, the US Forest Service will be replacing a bridge located further up the canyon during this same period.

These critical infrastructure improvements are essential to maintaining safe and reliable access in the area.

The County and its partners appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during the construction period.

Residents and travelers are encouraged to plan alternate routes accordingly.

Updates and additional information will be provided on the Johnson County website and social media channels as the project progresses.
