May 17, 2025

News – Sheridan Media

Sheridan County Planner Mark Reid made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, in part, to advise the public on how best to get involved with the land use planning process in the county.

Reid’s father was a geologist. Reid said family outings usually turned into lessons on geology and geography. It was these lessons that sparked an interest that would never fade and guide Reid in his professional life.

Reid earned his bachelor’s degree in geography from University of Colorado in 1978. He has spent his entire professional planning career working in the Intermountain West including Washakie, Laramie and Sheridan Counties, and Pocatello, ID. Reid has been the Sheridan County Planner since January 2007.

One of the primary goals of the Sheridan County Planning Office is to engage the public in all aspects of the county planning process and Reid wished to advise the public as to the best time to be involved should they like to add their opinion on how the County plans for future development.

The most recent comprehensive plan from Sheridan County was accepted in 2020 and can be found here. The process of creating a new comprehensive plan can take up to 18 months, with many stakeholders adding and omitting sections, ensuring it follows various goals and the will of the public.
